Mariska Hargitay Gets A Star

Was8060827Mariska Hargitay (Carly Fixx from Falcon Crest’s seasons 7 & 8) was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Surrounded by loved ones, the "Law & Order" vet was overcome with emotion as she received her star, which is perfectly placed next to that of her mother, the late Jayne Mansfield. Among those who came out to celebrate Hargitay's milestone moment were her husband, Peter Hermann, their three children, August, Andrew, and Amaya, and her half-sister, Jayne Marie Mansfield.

Mariska Hargitay: I Love My Post-Baby Body

mariska-hargitay-300Not a new article (it’s actually from February 2013) but nice to read anyway:

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit
star Mariska Hargitay is pretty in purple on the March cover of Ladies Home Journal. In an accompanying interview, the 49-year-old actress – who is mother to children August, 6, Amaya, 2, and Andrew, 1 – opens up about her motherly curves, her fitness routine and how the perspective of age has helped her develop into the fulfilled person she is today.
On embracing her post-pregnancy body: “I love my curves because they scream, ‘I’m a mama!’ I’m the girl who started wearing maternity pants about an hour after I found out I was pregnant because I was so excited about becoming a mom. Things are sagging a bit – I’m not going to lie. But am I going to be upset about the sag or am I going to look at my three gorgeous kids and my husband and count my lucky stars?”
On how her kids help her keep fit: “I try to run because it keeps me sane. There are weeks I don’t do it at all. There are weeks when I do it every day. But I also live in a house with a lot of stairs and three young kids, and as clichéd as it sounds, chasing after my kids is no small feat. I don’t even need to go to a gym because all I do is go up and down stairs carrying toddlers!”
On becoming a confident woman: “I spent most of my 20s having people say no to me. I’d go on auditions and the casting directors would be like: You’re not tall enough, you’re not pretty enough, you’re not blonde enough, your nose is too big, your nose is too small, your skin is too dark, your skin is too light, change your name! There was so much rejection. I didn’t work for eight years. But my dad taught me not to give up. He’d hold his forefinger and his thumb about an inch apart and say, “Mariska, it takes about this much more to be a winner.” I’d get an audition and he’d say, “How hard are you going to work for it? What are you going to do today to get yourself closer to your goal?” So I did what I could to become the best actor I could be: I read every play, I went to acting class, I took every audition, I pushed myself when I didn’t feel like pushing myself. I acted confident even when I wasn’t. And slowly, by doing the thing I loved and by getting better at it, I became more confident.”

Mariska Hargitay attended the 2010 Matrix Awards presented by New York Women in Communications at The Waldorf Astoria on April 19, 2010 in New York City.

The Matrix Award honors extraordinary achievements of outstanding women in the communications industry.
Mariska, who is president & founder of the Joyful Heart Foundation presented an award to singer Sheryl Crow.

Mariska met Sheryl Crow on the Big Island of Hawaii in 2006. "I always wear a necklace with the word 'Fearlessness' on it," says Hargitay. "I think that's what first drew me to Sheryl. I have a deep appreciation for people who grab life by the horns and ride it for all it's worth. She does it with such grace and beauty, with humor and humility, and this magical combination of you-can't-stop-me determination and tranquil self-awareness. She may have the most beautiful heart of anyone I know-pure and good and true."

Mariska Hargitay Article

Here's a nice Mariska Hargitay article I've found on www.theinsider.com:

Mariska Hargitay Is A Real Charmer...

...but who knew she was a SNAKE charmer!

On Saturday afternoon, I stumbled upon the lovely Mariska Hargitay and her family, husband Peter Hermann and 3-year-old son August, at the petting zoo at CMEE's 1st Annual Summer Family Fair. I almost didn't recognize the Law & Order: SVU star standing among all of the other Moms in her oversized sunglasses and striped tank top. The doting Mom was busy snapping away pictures of August holding a Guinea Pig, pointing out the pot bellied pig, and petting the goats. I had no problem with the hungry goats, even when they tried to snack on my camera strap, and I think I handled the pooping rooster pretty well, but when Mariska's husband Peter reached for the baby boa constrictor, well, then I had a little problem.

Peter, who was standing uncomfortably close to me, quickly draped the reptile around his shoulders and turned to his perfectly accessorized wife for a picture. I just knew that Mariska would have to fight the same urge to squeal in horror as I did, but instead, she gushed over the snake - even calling it CUTE! “Please tell me you're kidding me?” my crackling voice asked of Mariska. “Oh my gosh, snakes don’t scare me at all,” she replied. Not exactly the answer I was looking for, but I had calmed myself down enough to at least hear her out. “I had snakes around all the time growing up,” Mariska rationalized, “my brothers had snakes…they’re really amazing creatures.” Actually Mariska, what's amazing is that I was still standing upright!

Mariska was loving the whole moment, calling over August and taking pictures of Peter with the “cute” snake. Just when it had wrapped itself around Peter's neck and was slithering up to the top of his head, Mariska turned to me and said, “Look, there's your picture! See him on top of his head?” Oh, I see it alright!! And that's when the photographer in me had to slap the girl in me and make me get back to work. Without a long lens, and closer than I've ever wanted to be to a boa constrictor, baby or otherwise, I took those darn pictures - and I lived to tell the tale. Granted, I then wandered off wondering if the Family Fair was serving anything stronger than fruit juice, but I was proud of myself none the less!

My sincere thanks to Mariska, Peter and August for a photo-op I won't soon forget!
