Last Friday, there was a private screening of the upcoming film “Earl Hamner Storyteller”, a documentary on the life and works of Earl Hamner.

Susan Sullivan and Falcon Crest hubby David Selby will be reunited in the upcoming play “A Delicate Balance” (see our news dated 2014-03-19).

Yesterday, Broadwayworld.com published an article and provided more information about the play:

A caustically funny and moving exploration of the bonds of friendship and family in a threatening world, A Delicate Balance is considered by many to be Edward Albee's most challenging work. The first of his three Pulitzer Prize-winning plays, it is stylish, daring and profoundly touching - full of memorable Albee bits, bountiful bursts of colorful invective and lacerating repartee.
Empty nesters Agnes (Sullivan) and Tobias (Selby) share their upper middle class suburban home with their permanent houseguest - Agnes' tartly entertaining and perpetually soused sister, Claire (O-Lan Jones). The household's precarious equilibrium is disrupted one evening by the appearance of lifelong family friends Harry (Mark Costello) and Edna (Lily Knight), who are seeking refuge from an unnamed terror. When daughter Julia (Deborah Puette) returns home in the throes of the breakup of her fourth marriage, she finds her room occupied by Harry and Edna, who refuse to leave.
"Albee is concerned with the human condition," says Larsen. "That existential dread that we all deal with on a daily basis. Human relationships are so tenuous, even those with our closest family and friends - at the end of the day, we are alone. A Delicate Balance explores the unsettling side of what it means to be human."
Best known for his first full-length play Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, Albee's early one-acts, including The Zoo Story, established him as a critic of American values. In addition to A Delicate Balance, Albee received Pulitzer Prizes for Seascape and Three Tall Women. Recipient of a 2005 Lifetime Achievement Tony Award and many other awards over the years, Albee has been called "America's greatest living playwright" - and the playwright himself has caustically replied that all the others are dead.
Robin Larsen's directing credits include Mrs. Warren's Profession at Antaeus; the L.A. premiere of David Harrower's Blackbird for Rogue Machine (LADCC nomination, Best Production; five "Best of 2011" lists including the Los Angeles Times and LA Weekly); the world premiere of Pursued By Happiness by Keith Huff at the Road Theatre Company (Los Angeles Times "Critic's Choice"); and the West Coast premiere of The Fall To Earth by Joel Drake Johnson, starring JoBeth Williams, at the Odyssey (LADCC Nomination, Huffington Post "2012 Top Los Angeles Theater Productions"). Robin's West Coast premiere of Four Places, also by Joel Johnson, at Rogue Machine was one of the most lauded plays of the 2010 L.A. theater season, winning Ovation, LADCC and Backstage Garland awards for Best Production. For the Black Dahlia Theatre, Robin directed the West Coast premiere of Tryst (five Ovation Award nominations including Best Production and Best Director, three LA Weekly Awards including Best Play, and two Backstage Garland Awards including Best Director) and the L.A. premiere of David Schulner's An Infinite Ache (Los Angeles Times "Critic's Choice"). Robin is an Academy Award-winning filmmaker whose work has screened at festivals around the world. Set design for A Delicate Balance is by Tom Buderwitz; lighting design is by Leigh Allen; sound design is by Christopher Moscatiello; costume design is by Dianne K. Graebner; dramaturg is Christopher Breyer; and assistant director is Miranda Stewart.
Performances of A Delicate Balance take place on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m., April 26 through June 15. On Sunday, April 27 only, the performance will be at 5 p.m. with no 2 p.m. matinee. Additional weeknight performances are scheduled on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. on May 21 and June 4; and on Thursdays at 8 p.m. on May 8, May 15, May 29; and June 12. Tickets are $30, except for the opening night performance on Saturday, April 26 which is $45 and includes a gala reception with the actors. There will be three pay-what-you-can (minimum $10) performances on Friday, May 2; Thursday, May 8; and Wednesday, May 21. Susan Sullivan on CASTLE Season 6 and more

On CASTLE, now in its sixth season, Mondays at 10 PM on ABC, we have long known that our eponymous hero, played by Nathan Fillion, was raised alone by his mother, actress Martha Rodgers, portrayed by Susan Sullivan.

Last season, Castle encountered his father, by super-spy Jackson Hunt, played by guest star James Brolin. Now Martha knows that her son knows who his dad is. Since Castle is now engaged to NYPD homicide detective Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) and Castle’s daughter Alexis (Molly C. Quinn) has a boyfriend, it’s possible Jackson may return to stir Martha’s life up a little.

At least, Sullivan says that’s something she’d like to see when we get to speak with her at a party thrown by ABC for the Television Critics Association.

ASSIGNMENT X: Going forward, do you know what you’d like to see happen with the rest of this season of CASTLE?

SUSAN SULLIVAN: I’m hoping they bring James Brolin back, for God’s sake. That would be fun.

AX: Were you pleased to find out that’s who Castle’s was played by?

SULLIVAN: Yeah. He’s an attractive guy. And he’s tall. You can look up. We women need to look up at a certain point. It’s a better angle.

AX: Had you ever imagined anybody in the role of Castle’s dad before it was cast?

SULLIVAN: You know, I gave it some thought. You tend to think of your friends, and I thought of David Selby from FALCON CREST, or Bob Foxworth, or that kind of thing, just because you have a history with an actor and it sort of informs the part and the relationship. But it’s always fun to meet somebody new.

AX: So do you have a favorite episode or scene in what we’ve seen until now? Do you like it when Martha gets to do her theatrical stuff and get into costume?

SULLIVAN: Yeah, I like that. I’d like Martha to write a book. I’d like Martha to sort of impact aging women with a sense of possibility and how it feels to feel marginalized and trying to stay in the game. That’s always what interested me about the character. So when those kinds of scenes come up, I like it. I’d like her to dance wildly around the house, because that’s how you get out of depression. I liked the Chet thing [when Martha almost got married]; I liked the relationship. Having a relationship was kind of nice.

AX: In the last couple of seasons, Martha’s had some episodes where she’s really been afraid that either Castle or Alexis is going to die – Alexis got kidnapped, Castle almost succumbed to a virus. Since Martha is not inherently a worrier, is it difficult doing those scenes without throwing her completely out of character whack?

SULLIVAN: You know, the character is used as she is needed in terms of the scripts. So sometimes she’s really wise and direct and smart; sometimes she’s completely stupid and off the wall. So she’s a little bit of everything. But the truth is that we’re filled with contradictions as human beings. So I think for the most part, I can make those scenes work, because I believe that we are very multi-dimensional.

AX: Do you feel motherly towards Nathan Fillion, since he plays your son?

SULLIVAN: Yes, I do. I do. In fact, during the break, while he was inBora Bora, or some exotic place, I had dinner with his mother Cookie, and I know him a little better now.

AX: Have you enjoyed seeing Molly Quinn grow up on the show as Martha’s granddaughter over the years you’ve been doing it?

SULLIVAN: I love Molly Quinn. We did a play together. We did KINDERTRANSPORT at L.A. TheatreWorks, and she really is a wonderful actress. She’s going to be better and better. She needs to be messier. She’s a little too perfect. But she’ll get there. She’s just delightful.

AX: The actual Kindertransport was to get Jewish children out of Germany before the outbreak of World War II. Can you describe the play KINDERTRANSPORT?

SULLIVAN: It’s a very kind of involved piece, because it goes back and forth in time, but it’s obviously about the kids who were sent from their parents in Germany, right before the break of the Second World War, to live in England, and about what happened to them, what happened to these kids who were suddenly left without parents and living with strangers and in a strange country. It’s a fascinating play. [Quinn] played my daughter. And I played the daughter of Jane Kaczmarek. So it was back and forth in time betweenGermany andEngland and the present and the past. We did it as a radio play. I was surprised. I didn’t know if it would work. It was kind of confusing to read, but to play it – the audiences were very enthused.

AX: What else do you have going on right now?

SULLIVAN: You have two CASTLE-heads here. Seamus [Dever, who plays CASTLE’s Detective Kevin Ryan] and I are doing charity lunches. We have two lined up. Fundraisers. We’re both in the same companies – the Antaeus Theatre Company and L.A. TheatreWorks.

AX: So people pay money to have lunch with the two of you to benefit the theatre groups?

SULLIVAN: Yes. It is amazing. I find it interesting to see who these people are.

AX: Is there anything else you’d like to say about CASTLE right now?

SULLIVAN: It’s a delightful place to be, and it’s great to have a job at this point in life.

'Castle' star part of Woodbridge playwright's reading

Woodbridge playwright Susan Cinoman will move her play "Love and Class in Connecticut" a big step closer to a professional production with a New York City reading set for Friday, Sept. 7.
The script attracted the attention of director Karen Lynn Carpenter (of the off-Broadway hit, "Love, Loss and What I Wore") who sent it on to Susan Sullivan, the veteran actress who co-stars on the ABC series "Castle." The performer said she wanted a shot at the play and Carpenter quickly lined up Ally Walker and Angelica Page for the private reading, which will be done for potential producers and other theater-world folk.
In a phone interview last week, Cinoman said she was very excited by the interest in her play.
"Karen loved it right away and got some producers interested in it. One of the producers of `American Idiot' and `How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying' is coming up from Washington to see it," she said.
"We'll be looking for some feedback, but we're hoping one of them will say, `Let's go!,' " the writer said, with a chuckle.
Cinoman teaches theater at Woodland High School in Beacon Falls. "I'd like to be writing full time, of course, but I like teaching acting and directing the (school) shows," she said.
Getting Sullivan to commit to the Sept. 7 event was a big step forward.
"Everyone loves her. Once she said she wanted to do it, it all started to come together," Cinoman said.
The two male roles in the play haven't been filled yet, but the playwright is hoping Fairfield native Justin Long will be able to participate.
"We're waiting to hear back from him and Christian Borle," she said of this year's Tony-winner for "Peter and the Starcatcher" and a featured player on the NBC series "Smash."
"I'm a little nervous, but Karen is not worried," Cinoman said of the two unfilled male roles, adding that for this sort of event the actors come together for the first time on the day of the performance to prepare for the reading.

Falcon Crest Stars Susan Sullivan and Gregory Harrison attended the 3rd Annual SAG Foundation Golf Classic at Lakeside Golf Club on June 11, 2012 in Burbank, California.

The Golf Classic is a charity tournament benefiting the Foundation’s Catastrophic Health Fund and Assistance Programs. The event hosted by Ron Perlman, had stars of television and movies out to support the worthy cause.
The Golf Classic brings together golf enthusiast from the sports and entertainment communities to raise funds for the foundation, which provides vital support to the acting community in times of need.

Susan looks great as always. Nobody would ever think of her turning 70 this fall. And so does Gregory Harrison. A few weeks ago he turned 62... who would have guessed?
