Gina Lollobrigida receives star on Hollywood Walk Of Fame

Falcon Crest’s season 4 guest star Gina Lollobrigida was honoured with a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame on Thursday to celebrate a half century as one of the world's most iconic leading ladies.

The Golden Globe-winning star, 90, has appeared in about 60 movies but her big breakthrough came when she starred alongside Humphrey Bogart in John Huston's 1953 romp "Beat the Devil."
Italians dubbed their answer to Elizabeth Taylor "the most beautiful woman in the world" after she starred in her signature movie "La Donna piu bella del mondo" (1955).
"What can I say? I'm very moved. I didn't expect, after so many years, to be back here and to have all this love," Lollobrigida said, speaking in English.

"I was very spoiled in America, even when I came the first time, and I did the first movie with MGM, with Frank Sinatra. I remember they treated me like a queen. I will never forget that."
She thanked fans for making her famous across the world, declaring that the movies, unlike other artforms, were "magic" and that working made her "feel alive."

Tiziana Rocca, the general director of the ongoing Filming on Italy festival in Los Angeles, described Lollobrigida as a "legend" with an "outstanding career."

The actress, once a famous Italian pin-up, is perhaps best known for her performance in the 1956 US movie "Trapeze," in which she starred alongside Burt Lancaster and Tony Curtis

Born Luigina Lollobrigida in Subiaco, Italy on July 4, 1927, she was a model and beauty pageant contestant in her youth. She finished third in the 1947 Miss Italia pageant.
Lollobrigida won the first of her three David di Donatello Awards from L'accademia del Cinema Italiano as best actress in 1956 for "Beautiful but Dangerous."
Affectionately known as "La Lollo" by fans, she also won the award in 1963 for "Imperial Venus" and 1969 for "Buona Sera, Mrs Campbell."
As well as Sinatra, Lollobrigida worked with luminaries including Errol Flynn ("Crossed Swords"), Bob Hope ("The Private Navy of Sgt O'Farrell") and Sean Connery ("Woman of Straw").
She made two films with Rock Hudson -- "Come September" and "Strange Bedfellows" -- while other memorable movies include "Trapeze," "The Hunchback of Notre Dame," "Solomon and Sheba" and "Hotel Paradiso."
In the 1970s Lollobrigida turned her interest to photojournalism and today she keeps busy with photography and sculpture.

Gina Lollobrigida's jewellery raises $5m at Geneva auction

Gina Lollobrigida’s jewellery collection was the centrepiece of an epic auction of Magnificent and Noble Jewels which saw nearly 650 lots selling for a combined total of $78,229,556.

Her jewellery has fetched almost $5m at an auction in Geneva. The collection included a pair of pearl and diamond earrings that sold for $2.39m, Sotheby's said.
The auction house said the collection went for twice as much as the original estimate.

More than 20 of her pieces - many created by Italian jeweller Bulgari - went under the hammer on Tuesday.
"So often women are lucky enough to be given jewellery, but when you have an actress, a famous lady, who has chosen the jewellery herself it makes it that much more interesting," said David Bennett of Sotheby's Geneva.

The 85-year-old said some of the money would go towards an international hospital for stem-cell treatment.
The Magnificent Jewels and Noble Jewels sale, which included jewellery from other sellers, also featured a yellow diamond reportedly once owned by a Shah of Persia that sold for just under $3m.

Gina Lollobrigida says Ex-Beau illegally married her by proxy

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Gina Lollobrigida (Francesca Gioberti on Falcon Crest, 1984) is threatening legal action against a former boyfriend decades younger than her on claims he married her by proxy in order to claim part of her estate.

Lollobrigida, 85, confirmed Tuesday that she filed a formal complaint in Rome on Sunday against former beau, Javier Rigau y Rafols, a Spanish citizen. Rigau is reported to be between 44 and 51 years old, depending on the news source.

In a bizarre case that would not be out of place in the 1950s comedies she starred in, Lollobrigida alleges Rigau married an imposter who claimed to be her in a civil marriage ceremony in Barcelona held in 2010. A marriage certificate would likely make Rigau Lollobrigida’s prime heir.

“This vile and dishonest person married me by proxy, without my knowledge, without my permission, in order to inherit my estate after my death,” Lollobrigida said. “There will be an international investigation into everything because I want to shed light on this squalid affair and all the people involved.”
According to Lollobrigida, Rigau had previously obtained a power of attorney in order to help her clear up some legal problems. She said she believes that allowed him to carry out the bogus marriage ceremony. Lollobrigida said she discovered the fake marriage only after coming across a document online that showed she was married to Rigau.

“I found a document in which it seems that in November 2010 he became my husband, before eight witnesses,” she said. “I fear he took advantage of the fact that I don’t understand Spanish. Who knows what it is he had me sign?”

The relationship between Lollobrigida and Rigau lasted more than 20 years after they met at a 1980s party in Monte Carlo. She said she considered marrying him in 2006, but she changed her mind, believing it would be a mistake.

Three days later, the actress celebrated her 83rd birthday.

I still have to smile when I think about the fact that Richard had an affair with Francesca, played by Italian Movie Star Gina Lollobrigida who later turned out to be his own aunt (after the Season 6 Finale).
